Latest Match Reports

Frinton & Walton U12 Reds 0 Lexden Saints U12 Reds 2

The end of season C League friendly tournament started with a 0-2 reverse to Lexden Saints Reds. A well contested game saw quite a few chances squandered by both sides, Ben and Harley going closest for Frinton before Lexden took the lead before half time. The second half was again, an end to end battle, with Frinton never really getting their passing game going. A full length diving save by Harry G. kept the home side in it, only for Lexden to wrap the game up with a clinical finish after Frinton failed to get the ball clear from a cross. Good debuts were made by Daniel Russell, Connor Knights and Man of the Match, Charlie Harrison

Frinton & Walton U12 Reds 2 Colchester Athletic U12 Blues 9

Once the snow (is it really April ??) had been cleared from the pitch markings, we were good to go and a fairly cagey first 5 minutes saw neither team getting the upper hand. Following a series of corners for the home side, however, Colchester opened the scoring as their centre forward latched on to a long through ball and slotted in to the net. We then had a flurry of hail stones and unfortunately a flurry of goals for the visitors. The first a headed flick into the net from a right wing cross, to be followed by 2 balls lobbed over Harry G. as he came out to close down onrushing attackers. Worse was to come as Colchester were then awarded a penalty. The spot kick hit the bar and bounced kindly for the away side to make it 5-0 just before half time. There was just time left in the half for Calvin to go close from a right wing corner before the whistle blew. The first half was a very one sided affair as the scoreline showed, but to be fair Frinton didn't really do themselves justice and Colchester finished their opportunities very well.

The second period started in much the same fashion as most of the first, with the Reds conceding a goal and we, the loyal (and very cold) support, feared the worst. The boys were to prove us wrong though as, although the game was effectively lost, they made a really good showing and the rest of the game was a much more even affair. They started to pass the ball a lot better and created some openings, Harley missing a couple, the second after great work down the left from Nathan and Lewis. The defence were starting  to work better as a unit but this didn't stop Colchester scoring twice more with good finishes. Ben then missed a golden opportunity at the other end before dispatching one of his trademark free kicks to earn Frinton a well earned consolation goal. Another goal for Colchester soon followed but Sam was beginning to boss things in the middle of the park and space was opening up in the visitors area. Harley then went round the last defender and got a second for the Reds and Connor almost scored with a difficult half-volley. The back line of Harry K., Calvin, James and especially Callum, who was everywhere it seemed, stood strong and prevented any further threats on the Frinton goal as Frinton finished in the ascendancy - another couple of shots narrowly over the bar adding to the home sides frustrations.

All in all the game was probably not quite as one-sided as the scoreline reflects, Colchester were the better side however and fully deserve the win and their promotion but hats off to Frinton for their battling performance in the second half, with a bit more luck they could have had another couple of goals.
