Match Reports Frinton & Walton Under 16’s Reds 2 Halstead Town (EJA) Under 16's 0 Although many didn’t give Frinton a great deal of hope of winning this Open Cup Quarter Final against a side going well in the Eastern Junior Alliance, the boys played their hearts out to secure an unlikely but well deserved 2-0 win. From the outset it was clear that Halstead had come to keep control of possession and play football and this was the pattern in the first part of the game. The pitch at Kirby was not the best surface to try and play this way and Frinton were able to keep the visitors at bay, thanks to some very hard work in the middle of the park from Charlie Harrison, Harry Burkett and Lewis McKenny. Calvin Yau was having a great game at right back, deputising for the injured Izzak Parker and it was his long clearance that fell into Sam Greig’s stride as he raced through to slot the ball past the Halstead ‘keeper and give Frinton the lead. Not long after this Frinton extended their lead following a goalmouth scramble, Rob Turrell finally poking the ball into the net from close range. Into the second half and Frinton came under increasing pressure as Halstead tried to force their way back into the game, but heroic defending from Ollie Smith, Cameron Smith and Tom Page kept the scoreline at 2-0. The sheer amount of work that the Frinton players were having to do eventually became evident, as both Callum Marable and Harry Burkett were taken off due to knocks, to be replaced by Connor Lewarne and Harley King respectively. As the half wore on, the home side were finding themselves almost permanently on the back foot – Halstead earning a lot of corners and a few free kick outside the area, a couple of which Harry Greig had to alert to push over the bar. As the clock ticked slowly round to full time Frinton were able to relieve the pressure on a couple of occasions by getting forward and shooting from long range themselves, but in the end the hosts held out to be worthy winners and proceed to play Halstead Town Blues in the Semi Final. Well done all of you, a great result! Man of the Match Ollie SmithBergholt Heath Under 16’s 1 Frinton & Walton Under 16’s Reds 14 Frinton took Bergholt to task in this game, but it wasn’t surprising, as the home side only had 9 players at kick off and another was carried off after about 20 minutes. You have to say a massive well done to the Bergholt players for keeping going for the whole game and making life difficult for the Frinton side. Frinton’s goalscorers were Charlie Harrison 3, Sam Greig 2, Harry Burkett 2, Rob Turrell 2, Harley King 2, Nat Huxham, Lewis McKenny and a first ever goal for Tom Page.Frinton & Walton Under 16 Reds 3 Brightlingsea Regents 3 - Frinton win 5-4 on penalties (Open Cup) This was the epitome of a ding-dong game... Frinton opened the scoring through Rob Turrell after a frenetic two or three minutes and Frinton held on to their lead until nearly half time, as the defensive quartet of Cameron Smith, Olly Smith, Ollie Withams & Izzak Parker stood firm against the visitors frequent attacks. The second half was hard going for both sides, but Brightlingsea had the better of it and duly took the lead with about ten minutes to play. It looked like the end of Frinton's cup run until Sam Greig popped up with a couple of minutes to spare to send the tie into extra time. There was no goal in the first half of the overtime but Brightlingsea thought they had won it following an unaccustomed mistake from Harry Greig in the Frinton goal. Just as the cold Frinton supporters were getting ready to call it a day, Olly Smith smashed home a volley with virtually the last kick of the game to give us a penalty shootout. After the 5 kicks the score stood at 3-3 with both 'keepers making 2 saves each, but Frinton went on to win as Harry Greig made up for his earlier error to save the crucial spot kick and send Frinton through to face Tempest in the next round. Well done to the whole team for sticking with it and especially the penalty takers. Frinton & Walton Under 16 Reds 4 Clacton United 0 (Open Cup) Frinton gained a measure of revenge against the Clacton side that had beaten them in last year's end of season trophy final, with a great all-round display. Rob Turrell scoring the first following some good build up play and a dummy by Lewis McKinney to slot past the 'keeper. Although they had a lot of possession, it wasn't until the second half that Charlie Harrison added to the score by lobbing one in from 25 yards. The Frinton back four of Cameron Smith, Olly Smith, Ollie Withams and Izzak Parker were solid and well deserved their clean sheet. The third came from a Connor Lewarne cross giving Harry Burkett a simple header and the fourth came from the same source as Sam Greig finished with an overhead kick. Good cameo appearances from Callum Marrable, Calvin Yau, Tom Martin & Nathan Huxham showed the strength in depth that the squad has these days. Halstead Town Under 16's Reds 2 Frinton & Walton Under 16's Reds 4 A decent performance in parts, saw Frinton overcome Halstead in a match that was never going to be easy for either side due to the gusting wind. The visitors took the lead after barely two minutes, as Cameron Smith headed home a Connor Lewarne corner, to notch his first goal for the club. The play then became quite scrappy, as both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball. Halstead were next to score when the Frinton defence had a momentary lapse of concentration, but the lead was soon restored by Rob Turrell, who did well to chase a long ball from Charlie Harrison down and manage to get the final touch past the Halstead 'keeper. After half time, Frinton upped the tempo somewhat and two further goals went to man of the match Rob Turrell to complete his hat trick. The first as he got the final touch to a Sam Greig shot that was probably going in anyway and the second, following a goalmouth scramble, after Tom Martin had had a shot beaten away. Halstead had the final word with a consolation goal in the dying seconds, but that was pretty much the end of the action. St Edmunds (a) 3-3 A great comeback saw Frinton come from 2-0 and 3-1 behind to secure a very respectable away point against a team with a 100% record from 3 previous games. To be completely honest St Edmunds had more than enough chances in the first half an hour to have put the game well beyond Frinton. It was only some heroics from H Greig in the goal and some last ditch defending from Smith and captain Withams that kept them in it, as St Edmunds threatened to run riot. After what was a terrible start and finding themselves 2-0 down, Frinton finally started to get into the game and get the ball out into the wide areas. Lewarne linked up well with S Greig but lack of numbers in the area meant the chance was squandered. Frinton eventually found a lifeline, Page played in Martin, who had recently come on for Huxham, down the left and he was able to lift the ball over the keeper to draw Frinton within a goal of parity before half time. Frinton started the second half off quite well but conceded a third goal quite early on, as a rocket free kick breached the wall, giving Greig no chance. Once again, Frinton rose to the challenge and debut man Stevens had a gilt edged chance to pull one back which unfortunately fell to his weaker left foot. Burkett, Yau & Harrison in the centre of midfield were having a far greater influence on the game in the second period and Frinton were able to build some pressure, which was eventually rewarded as S Greig looped a header over the keeper to cut the deficit to a single goal again. Spurred on by their failure to have made the game safe by now, St Edmunds poured forward and Frinton had to be quick to the tackle to prevent shots raining in on the away goal. Parker in particular, making one fantastic full length challenge just as the St Edmunds player was about to pull the trigger. The point that Frinton's spirit deserved was won as with around five minutes remaining, Burkett played in S Greig, who slammed in a left foot equaliser, much to the delight of the frozen Frinton supporters. Good game to watch (apart from the first 20 minutes or so!) - Man of the Match was Tom Martin. Alresford Colne Rangers Blues (a) 1-0 Yet another incredibly hard-fought win from the Reds, as the game was settled by a solitary goal by Sam Greig 15 minutes from the end. Both sides enjoyed periods of possession and went close on a number of occasions without troubling the scoreboard. This was a game where it was impossible to credit any one player as a man of the match, as it was truly a team performance from the back to the front. Long Melford (h) 1-0 A very hard-fought game was settled mid-way through the second half as McKenny fired a low shot into the far corner, following persistent wing play from Lewarne. Burkett had a few opportunities prior to that but failed to capitalise, despite all his hard work. Greig will be happy with his clean sheet courtesy of one outstanding save and the man of the match award went to Smith for his solidity at the back. A great all-round team performance and a good start to the season. Season 2010/11 (as Under 15's Reds) League Table

Stats 2010-11 (to date 11/05/11) Well done to Harry B, Harry G, Charlie, Issac, Cameron and Calvin for being ever-present this season
Match Reports Clacton United Under 15s 2 Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 1 – End of Season Trophy Final This was always going to be a difficult game against a Clacton side who not only had won the league, but who would also be seeking revenge against the only team to have beaten them this season. The Reds started well enough but didn’t really create too much and slowly Clacton came back into it. They began to play the ball around better and made life very difficult for the midfield quartet of Calvin, Ben, Lewis and Charlie. It wasn’t until later in the half that they tested Harry G. who stood up well to deny one of the quick Clacton forwards. Shortly after this Frinton had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Sam burst forward onto a long ball from Cameron, and although his shot was well saved by the keeper it dropped tantalisingly for Harry B but unfortunately on his left foot and he was unable to steer the ball into the net. With only a couple of minutes left until half time Clacton took the lead as their player ran through onto a diagonal pass and slotted home. After some no doubt inspirational words from Darcy at half time, the boys came out for the second half with a belief that they could get back into the game, but Clacton put them under almost immediate pressure and pegged them back into their own territory. With their backs to the wall a little bit, Ollie, Tom and especially Issac were forced into making tackle after tackle and clearance after clearance. Eventually the pressure told though and Clacton doubled their lead with about 25 minutes remaining. This seemed to spur the lads on and they pressed forward looking for the goal that would give them a chance. There was lots of good work being done by Fred and Vaughn, harrying the Clacton defence and Clacton slowly retreated deeper towards their penalty area. Connor gave Frinton a lifeline with a cracking goal which flew into the back of the net from the far post but it was too little too late and although they worked really hard to try and create another good opening, it wasn’t to be and Clacton ran out the winners. Great effort though lads, I’m sure all the watching friends and family were proud of you. Maybe next year eh?Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 3 St Edmunds Under 15's 1 Absolutely no idea how this one ended up with Frinton only scoring three! St Edmunds were always going to be under the cosh from the off as they only had ten players, but to be fair to them they defended resolutely in the first half to send the sides in at 0-0. Frinton got an early goal in the second half, courtesy of a nice right foot finish from Lewis, and then proceeded to camp out in the St Edmunds half. Although they had numerous chances, it took another 15 minutes for Harry B to register their second and leave Darcy breathing a little easier. Again, chance after chance fell their was, but a combination of poor finishing and the visiting goalkeeper kept the score respectable until Sam popped up with a far post header to make it three. St Edmunds were now down to nine players and still hung in there, even giving their supporters something to cheer, with the best goal of the game, but it was too high a mountain to climb and the Reds ran out 3-1 winners to set up a final appointment with Clacton United. Man of the Match - Lewis McKenny. Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 1 Alresford Colne Rangers Under 15 Reds 2 Another scrappy game for the Reds, who went behind after playing some decent football, when a through ball caught them napping, leaving the striker through one on one with Harry who had no chance against a clinical finish. Frinton had their chances to equalise but failed to capitalise on good build up play. Eventually Harry B was put through and slotted past the keeper to make it 1-1, even though there was a hint of offside about it. As the second half unfolded you got the feeling that the next team to score would go on and win and if Ben hadn't blasted over an unmarked goal that team could well have been Frinton. The home side were still creating half chances and Alresford were putting the Frinton defence under increasing pressure, mainly from high balls into the Frinton half. From a corner, Harry G had to make a fantastic save from a goal bound header but unfortunately the ball fell to an Alresford player, who gleefully tucked away the winner. The game petered out after that and Frinton will feel, as with the last game also, as though they perhaps could and should have done better, but they have qualified for the semi finals of the end of season trophy on top of Group A. Man of the Match was Ollie Withams. Brightlingsea Regents Under 15 0 Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 1 An incredibly scrappy first forty minutes saw saw the sides go in to half time at 0-0. The football was being treated as if it was a live hand-grenade and spent most of it's time in the air. The football from both the teams improved in the second half, but the cutting edge was missing from the equation most of the time. Frinton eventually took the lead as one of Brightlingsea's defenders rolled the ball past his own 'keeper when under pressure, shortly after Frinton had a goal ruled out for what looked like a tight offside call. The only other moment of note was a Brightlingsea shot from outside the area which cannoned of the inside of the post and back across the goal. Apart from that the game petered out and Frinton were pleased to take the win from a hard-fought battle. Man of the Match was Vaughn Van-Sertima Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 2 Clacton United Under 15 1 In this end of season trophy game, it was the Reds task to take on the league winners Clacton United. Honours were even in the regular season games with each side winning one each, so this was always going to be a tight affair. It took about 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, Frinton failing to deal with a corner and Clacton pouncing on the loose ball to bundle it into the goal. Clacton probably had the better possession for the remainder of the half but were unable to capitalise and extend their lead. Following the break, Frinton started playing some much better football and started to create some chances of their own, one eventually falling to Sam Greig to be the first to a loose ball and score a goal remarkably similar to Clacton's. The teams traded possession for most of the rest of the game but the decisive moment came with about 5 minutes left. A pass chipped forward over the defence found Harry Burkett looking suspiciously offside on the edge of the area but there was no quarrel with his finish, as he turned and smashed the ball into the corner to give Frinton the win. Man of the Match was Tom Martin Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 4 Long Melford Under 15 Reds 1 Frinton capitalised on good possession to take a three goal lead into half time. The second half was a much scrappier affair with a goal apiece for either side to show for it. Frinton’s goals courtesy of Sam Greig and a Harry Burkett hat-trick. Man of the match was awarded to Tom Martin. Great Bradfords Under 15’s 6 Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 1 (Open Cup) Frinton managed to get on the score sheet first through Harry Burkett, following a Calvin Yau cross, but that was pretty much the only effort Frinton could muster in the first half against a very strong wind. Despite spending much of the first period camped in the Frinton end, Great Bradfords were only able to score an equaliser in reply. Following an early breakthrough in the second half, the hosts went on to win comfortably as the wind seemed to hinder Frinton rather than help them. Man of the match was Harry Greig, who made numerous smart saves but unfortunately saw the loose ball drop to an unmarked forward to score. Cornard Dynamos Under 15’s 1 Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 0 A pretty disappointing performance ultimately led to a very disappointing result against a side Frinton had handed a 4-0 defeat to earlier in the season. To be fair, the conditions weren’t helpful and you could see the Reds players getting frustrated in the first half when they were playing against the wind and up the slope but the commitment they had shown in beating the league leaders just wasn’t there and the cutting edge was missing on this occasion. Cornard defended really well to keep the visitors at bay and created one or two opportunities of their own but the teams went into the break with 0-0 on the scoreboard. Frinton now had the elements and slope with them but failed to capitalise and despite having the ball in the Cornard half for reasonable periods, were unable to get the telling blow in. It was almost inevitable that they would pay for the wasted opportunities and sure enough, half way through the second period a mazy run from inside his own half by the Cornard captain, followed by a clinical finish, gave the hosts the winning goal. Frinton strove to get back in the game but it was obviously not going to be their day, there were just too many missed tackles, misplaced passes and lapses in concentration. Issac Parker was deservedly man of the match for a rock solid defensive display at right back, especially in the first half.
Frinton & Walton Under 15 Reds 14 Bergholt Heath
Under 15's 1
Frinton coasted to an easy win against a plucky Bergholt
side who well deserved their goal for not giving up.
Frinton's goals came courtesy of Harry Burkett (8), Lewis
McKenny (3), Sam Greig (2) and Calvin Yau, with a number
being set up by right wing crosses from man of the match
Connor Lewarne. Frinton were afforded the luxury of hitting
the crossbar twice and also the post as most of the game was
spent camped in the opposition half.
Clacton United Under 15’s 2 Frinton & Walton Under15’s Reds 3A thrilling game of football from start to finish as Frinton came from behind to inflict the first defeat of the season on the league leaders. The first half was pretty much dominated by the home side and they managed to create several good openings but the Frinton defence of Issac Parker, Ollie Withams, Cameron Smith, Luke Silverthorne and Vaughn Van-Sertima stood firm for the most part and when they weren’t able to get the final tackle in man of the match Harry Greig pulled off a series of top notch saves. The deadlock was broken when a shot took a deflection off a Frinton player and nestled in the roof of the net and the scores remained this way until half time. Upon resumption, Frinton looked to have found another gear and were soon firmly on the front foot, Charlie Harrison, Lewis McKinney on his return from injury and Calvin Yau working tirelessly in the middle of the park to win possession and force Clacton to retreat. Frinton levelled things up when Sam Greig had a shot and Harry Burkett pounced on the loose ball in the six yard box. After his shot from a tight angle had narrowly missed the far post, Calvin Yau then lobbed the ‘keeper from outside the area to put the visitors ahead. Fred Hamilton then hit the bar with a deflected effort that looped up off a defender but the lead was increased as Ben Ager sent Harry Burkett into space with just the ‘keeper to beat. Clacton came back strongly and forced a string of corners from one of which they pulled a goal back with a thumping finish from about a yard. It was all hands to the pumps for Frinton in the last 10 minutes or so, as Clacton strove for the equaliser, Harry Greig coming to the rescue on another couple of occasions, but the visitors held on for a deserved win following a fine performance. Frinton & Walton Under 15's Reds 1 Brightlingsea Regents Under 15's 3 A disappointing game in many ways, the Reds were not able to display the football they know they are capable of playing and suffered defeat against a Brightlingsea side they had comfortably beaten earlier in the season. The difficulty Frinton were having was evident when it took them half an hour to get their first decent attempt on goal. By then they were 1-0 down. The visitors soon made it 2-0 but a brief ray of hope came virtually straight away as Vaughn smashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. The second half performance was better but Frinton still struggled to work the Brightlingsea 'keeper. Brightlingsea wrapped the game up with a third goal about half way through the half and Frinton were unable to claw their way back, despite a late flurry of action in the Brightlingsea box. Although the team struggled as a whole, credit must be given to Charlie for a non-stop display in the middle of the pitch, Sam on his return to the fold and man of the match Issac for a committed defensive performance.
Boadicea Dynamos Under 15’s 8 Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1
St Edmunds Under 15's 1 Frinton & Walton Under 15's Reds 7 Frinton opened the scoring when man of the match Connor Lewarne smashed one in from about 25 yards and this was soon followed as Harry Burkett glanced a cross from the right past the 'keeper to make it 2-0. The possession was all Frinton's but St Edmunds were defending in numbers and making it difficult for the visitors. Further goals from Connor and Harry made it 4-0 before St Edmunds pulled one back just before half time, despite the best efforts of Cameron Smith and Issac Parker to prevent it. The rain came down in the second half making it difficult for both sides but both teams showed good intent to get forward. Luke Silverthorne was unlucky not to add to Frinton's total as he danced past three or four challenges but was unable to beat the 'keeper and if the 'keeper hadn't got a hand to Ollie Withams free kick he would have been celebrating too. Calvin Yau and Charlie Harrison kept things tight in the middle for Frinton and from this solid base Frinton were able to keep the pressure on, Fred Hamilton going very close to opening his account before Tom Martin's powerful strike fell kindly for Harry to be able to tap in to make it 5-1 and then Vaughn Van Sertima was able to poke the ball in the net for his first of the season. The scoring was rounded off with Harry getting his fourth and we all went home very, very wet! Frinton & Walton Under 15’s 1 Clacton United Under 15’s 6 The unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt as the Reds were given a second half lesson in football by a very strong Clacton side. To their credit the boys held Clacton to just the one goal before half time and soon after the break managed an equaliser via a Ben free kick and the head of Lewis. Parity was short lived though and eventually the visitors passing and movement undid the good work of the first 50 minutes. Frinton did endeavour to create some chances and had a couple of shots well saved but to be fair, if Clacton had taken their chances it could have been worse. Harry Greig was deservedly man of the match for one or two outstanding saves.Long Melford Under 15’s Reds 4 Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 6 Another good result for Frinton, although it was a battle against a team who are probably better than their results would suggest. After being pressed back for the majority of the first 10 minutes or so, Frinton took the lead through Harry B. This led to a flurry of goals, as Long Melford equalised almost instantly. Frinton took the lead twice more, only for the home side to equalise within what seemed like seconds both times. The teams went into the break level at 3-3, having traded blows like a pair of boxers in the ring. Frinton took the lead again shortly into the second half and then Ben was able to extend that lead to two goals for the first time and give the visitors a bit of breathing space. Melford were still very much in the game though and took advantage of their knowledge of the very small pitch at New Road to create plenty of scares for the Frinton defence, even managing to strike two powerful shots from distance against the crossbar. Cameron and Ollie were resolute in their defence and Harry G. had to make a couple of decent saves as well. Towards the end of the game man of the match Harry B. converted his fifth goal of the afternoon, but there was still time for Long Melford to pull one back before the final whistle went, much to everyone’s relief. Frinton & Walton U15's Reds 4 Cornard Dynamos U15's 0 The winning start to the season continued as the Reds strolled to a comfortable 4-0 victory at home against Cornard. If they had been a little more clinical in front of goal they could have been even more comfortable but, to be fair, the visitors defended resolutely and their 'keeper made a few excellent saves. The goals were scored by Harry B. with two very nice finishes, the first a delicate lob over the goalie and the second a pinpoint strike into the corner; Calvin with a decisive strike and Connor making the most of defensive hesitancy following a corner. Cornard were reduced to ten men in the second half after one of their players was dismissed for almost obsessive handball, so fair play to the remaining players for keeping the score down. Special mention to Issac for a solid performance at the back & Fletcher for making me laugh by requesting that the opposition "get out of his way". Man of the Match was Connor Lewarne. Brightlingsea Regents U15's 2 Frinton & Walton U15's Reds 7 First game of the season is finally upon us and Darcy and the lads couldn't have asked for a better start, as after about three minutes Harry B kept his cool to slot past the 'keeper following a poor clearance. Brightlingsea then had a rare attack and drew the scores level but not to be perturbed Frinton restored their lead almost immediately, Luke knocking one in on his debut. Lewis then collected the ball on the half-way line and was allowed to run straight through the home defence and make it 3-1 to the Reds. Charlie was involved in virtually every tackle that took place in the midfield and following one fairly innocuous challenge on the wing went into the referee's notebook. A determined run down the wing by Ben left Harry a simple chance to double his tally and put Frinton further ahead and the break saw them with a comfortable 4-1 lead. The second half was a much scrappier affair but Frinton scored first again as Calvin absolutely smashed one into the top corner from the edge of the area. A deep corner from Ben then landed straight on Harry's head to give him his hat-trick. Brightlingsea, who were having a lot more of the ball in this period scored a second as sloppy Frinton defending was punished but the final word went to the visitors, Ben getting the final touch with his knee I think! Good debuts from Luke, Issac & Tom and a welcome return to the fold by Fred. Man of the Match was Charlie Harrison. Stats 09/10 - well done to Charlie Harrison & Lewis McKenny for being ever-present this season.
Previous Match Reports FC Clacton U14 0 Frinton and Walton U14 Reds 3Today’s Valentine’s Day game on February 14th 2010 was played at the aptly named Clacton Rose Bowl Ground. Before the game, the event now in it's fourth year began in the "Whats in your flask today?" competition. Some of the more bizarre entries ranged from a single bread stick in a flask to the unlikely marriage of hot Marmite and Lucozade. Ollie's dad had on his flask a valentine heart cardboard arrangement by Ollie's Mum obviously a previous winner of a Blue Peter badge. Another announcement to make before the game was that Darcy's shorts made a reappearance after their annual wash last week. With a skeleton eleven players, Frinton and Walton started their game in earnest against a previously beaten Clacton side earlier in the season. Ollie's dad was also the guest photographer of the day with his 97cm lens and one thousand per second shutter speed camera. In the second minute Vaughn's through-ball to Ben saw him embark on a strong solo run, resulting in a good save from the Clacton keeper. It was fairly stalemate for the opening ten minutes with various strong exchanges deep in the middle third of the pitch. In the fourteenth minute Sam Greig ran through the Clacton defence to only narrowly miss the right hand post. In the seventeenth minute in the midst of the halfway line Kwok obviously after the excesses of the Chinese New Year shouted some expletives to coin that epic tactical phrase "Who's in the Blurry middle then?" (swear word has been substituted). Throughout the latter part of the first half there were some good strong running down the right by Sam, Vaughn and Ben threatening several chances. To use "Chuckle Brother" terminology, the ball pinballed between Ollie to Nat to Ben to Sam who then scored to make it 1-0 in the twenty-third minute. A minute later Ben launched a corner from the left which was cleared by a Clacton defender straight to Calvin who hit a fierce shot drive against the cross-bar, which rebounded on the ground. Unfortuntaly there was no Russian linesman to give us a "1966 goal". In the twenty-sixth minute Sam Greig's penalty re-take made it 2-0 to the visitors. Close to the end of the first half a plane appeared above to air drop Rob's half time hotdog with extra mustard. Before the end of the first half Harry Greig made a fabulous diving save from a Clacton header. This was a good solid first half performance from the Frinton and Walton side who went in at half time 2-0 up. In the early few minutes of the second half there were a couple of half chances for both teams. In the seventh minute a Clacton corner resulted in a strong header chance that narrowly missed the post. This was quickly followed by a strong shot by Ben which was deflected wide for a corner. In the seventeenth minute a great pass by Calvin to Sam resulted in a great chance just going wide of the post. Yet another through-ball by Calvin created a good chance for Ben on goal, again saved by the Clacton keeper, who was having a good strong performance. In the latter half of the second half Harry Greig was called on to make another great save from a strong Clacton strike. The game was admirably finished with a great move which contained a sequence of five really sharp passes resulting in Ben making the final score line 3-0. Completing a great all round performance by the Frinton and Walton team. Man of the Match was awarded to Vaughn for his runs down the wing and setting up many chances. Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 4 Wivenhoe Youth 2 Frinton & Walton progressed to the second round of the Open Cup following a proper old-fashioned cup-tie against Wivenhoe Youth at a bitterly cold Kirby Playing Field. The game started out quite slowly and neither side were able to make much of an impression in the first 10 minutes or so before Wivenhoe took the lead with quite a soft goal to concede. The home side started to get into the game after this and Fraser and Ben combined well on the right-hand side and as Fraser's cross dropped into the box it was met with a left foot volley from Charlie which fizzed past the post and out for a goalkick. Frinton's next opening was a bit of a goalmouth scramble, as first Vaughn's shot was saved and then Ben couldn't quite get enough on the ball to force it over the line. Parity was restored when a great left foot cross from Sam was controlled really well by Harry B in the area and smashed home with aplomb. Ollie was in the wars (as usual) and had to leave the field for a bit after being caught on the snout as he challenged for a header. A nice simple passage of football led to Frinton's second goal. Vaughn winning the ball in midfield, simple pass to Sam, who dissected the defence with a through ball, leaving Ben with just the 'keeper to beat. Calvin rode about 3 tackles before the ref gave a freekick and as the ball was cleared, it fell to Lewis whose speculative shot from outside the box flew over the crossbar. Just before the half ended, Frinton had the opportunity to extend their lead but Ben shot straight at the goalie, who took the full force of the ball in his midriff (which made my eyes water!). As Darcy led the troops into the changing rooms for his half-time pep talk, the crowd's conversation turned to other matters of importance, like the contents of people's flasks etc! A strange refereeing decision marked the start of the second half, Frinton were awarded the foul after the Wivenhoe player made a fantastic tackle. Justice was done (unfortunately!) as Ben's freekick went straight down the 'keeper's throat. The visitors almost got an equaliser but the player through on goal put his shot just wide as Harry G came off his line to narrow the angle. The game was flowing from ene to end with both sides looking most likely to score from a breakaway. A flowing move from Frinton didn't quite get the finishing touch it deserved, Nat playing it wide to Connor who moved the ball quickly down the line to Ben and Lewis was just unable to get enough on his shot to take it into the net. Wivenhoe were creating chances but none of them really threatened Harry's goal. The home side went close again after Nat found Vaughn in space and his curling right foot shot narrowly missed the goal on the right top corner. The amount of times that Frinton were crossing the ball from the byline with no one in the 6 yard box to get on the end of it was becoming frustrating for the fans and players alike. They were made to pay as a shot from distance looed towards the goal and had the height to be just out of Harry's reach and into the back of the net. The spectators were chewing their nails, as Wivenhoe had their tails up now and were looking for a winner in the last 5 minutes but it was Frinton who went close next, Harry meeting the cross from Ben. Then Frinton took the lead again, a great tackle from Cameron setting Harry B off into the area and crossing the ball for Ben to poke his toe out and divert it goalwards. The game was made safe and the crowd breathed a sigh of relief a couple of minutes later, Calvin winning a midfield battle and finding Ben to slot past the 'keeper for his hat-trick. Good game from both sides but well done to Frinton and onwards to round 2. Man of the Match was Ben. Long Melford U14 Reds 2 Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 5 A battling performance showing glimpses of some very good football was enough to see Frinton take all three points following the long drive to Long Melford. The first five minutes were fairly frantic, the ball pinging from end to end as the two teams looked to gain the upper hand. The first real chance of note fell to Melford as they sprang forward into the Frinton area but Lewis was there with a well-timed tackle to put the ball safely out for a corner. It was about 10 minutes into the game when Harry G. came out of his area to clear a through ball, the ball found Sam, who laid it back for Connor to knock the ball into the space behind the defence. Ben ran through and slotted a low shot past the 'keeper to put the visitors one up. Frinton's next attack forced a corner which was swung in from the left, the ball fell to Lewis who couldn't quite get his body into the right position and the shot went wide of the post off his knee. Frinton's second goal was a real team effort, Ollie making the tackle and moving the ball wide to Cameron, from there to Nat and inside to Calvin who took off down the left wing like a whippet. His left foot cross found Harry B. lurking at the edge of the area and he made no mistake in smashing the ball into the back of the net. Harry G. had to be on his toes to save bravely at the feet of the Melford striker and Frinton went straight up the other end and nearly scored, a defence splitting pass from Connor finding Harry B. and only a great sliding tackle saved the hosts from a 3 goal deficit. Nat was next to go close, a corner causing confusion in the box and it took a defender throwing his body in the way of the shot to prevent the goal. A quick break almost led to a goal for Calvin as the ball was worked down the left by Charlie, Cameron & Nat and into the box, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper. The half time break would have been all the sweeter if Ben's powerful shot hadn't whistled just the wrong side of the upright. Melford still had hope to think they could get back into the match and they almost capitalised on a slip in the middle as their forward ran through but Ollie got the challenge in even though he got a knock in the process. Harry G. then produced a flying stop to thwart a low hard shot that had "goal" written all over it. Unfortunately from the resultant corner the home side pulled one back, the ball swinging into the goalmouth and Harry could only push it out onto the head of a Melford player who just managed to squeeze it into the net despite Sam's attempt to clear. Not to be outdone, Frinton scored straight away from a corner of their own, Sam meeting the ball and planting it into the net with a deft header. The game degenerated for a time after that, scrappy play not really leading to any chances as both teams huffed and puffed without getting anywhere. the Reds were made to sweat when Melford scored to get within a single goal of Frinton again, a long range stinging shot was too powerful for Harry to prevent it spinning into the goal after he had saved the original shot. Another corner proved successful for Frinton, Harry B's flick on finding Lewis whose volley was stopped on the line but Vaughn reacted quickest to poke the ball home. Vaughn's introduction in the second half was proving a handful for the Melford defence and he made the game safe with the fifth goal shortly before time, outpacing the defence to slot coolly under the 'keeper, who got something on the shot but was unable to stop it trickling into the goal. Man of the Match was Calvin Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 1 Lexden Saints U14 2A very blustery day at Kirby saw both sides struggle to cope with the conditions but league high flyers Lexden came through to win the 3 points despite a late rally by Frinton. During a frantic opening spell the ball was almost exclusively in the Frinton half of the field, due to the wind being behind the visitors. If Frinton had been able to weather the early pressure and not concede, then the game may have been a little different, but unfortunately Lexden capitalised and took the lead in the 4th minute. In fact it took seven minutes before Frinton were able to get into the Lexden half and several more minutes before an attack of any note, Ben & Sam combining on the right to send a teasing cross into the area that Charlie was just unable to reach as the ‘keeper tidied up. The game settled into a pattern, with the ball either being on the far side of the pitch or in and around the home sides area, as the visitors looked to capitalise further on the advantage of the wind following. Harry G. was called into action to make a fine save – the Lexden forward finding himself one-on-one but failing to beat the Frinton stopper, the follow up shot was blazed high over the crossbar to the disappointment of the Lexden crowd. Frinton managed to break free of their defensive shackles as Calvin got in behind the defence but was only able to slice a shot across the face of goal from a pretty narrow angle. They then forced a corner due to hard work from Harry B. that caused momentary confusion in the Lexden area, allowing Sam to wriggle through and get a shot away that was saved. Lexden then sprang forward and Cameron had to make a very well timed tackle in the area to prevent the shot coming in. A slice of luck for the visitors saw them take a 2-0 lead, an attacker got round a couple of half heated tackles and fired a shot in, which was heading out for a goal kick until it took a wicked deflection off the back of another Lexden player and into the net. Coming up to half time and Lexden were looking to get another while they had the wind, a break down the left had to be well marshalled by Connor who made the tackle and cleared the danger. The second half began with Frinton in the ascendancy, Lewis and Sam playing a neat one-two but failing to see Charlie in acres of space on the left wing. Ben then broke through into the area, only to see his shot parried and his follow up chip not having the height to beat the goalie. Frinton then won a free kick right on the corner of the Lexden area, up stepped Fraser but unfortunately his shot, although on target was too near the ‘keeper. With 13 minutes remaining Lexden almost went further ahead, Harry G. doing well to narrow the angle and the shot cannoning off the foot of the post and to safety. Lewis was next to try his luck, but once again the shot was too near the ‘keeper and the danger passed. A flowing move from Frinton, Sam passing back to Connor, who clipped the ball forward for Harry B. to run on to but his snap shot didn’t trouble the defence. More pressure from Frinton saw Vaughn sprinting through and looking to shoot but the play was bought back for an offside flag. Now that Frinton had started playing some better football they were managing to open Lexden up on several occasions the best of these was when Sam and Nat played a one-two, the ball was then played infield to Ollie, who picked out Harry B. and on to Ben to run through and smash the ball into the net to reduce the arrears. This brought a definite spring to the Frinton players weary legs and they spent the last 5 minutes in and around the Lexden box looking for an equaliser. Lexden held firm though and the game finished with then taking a hard fought 3 points back to Colchester with them. A pretty good match considering how awkward the conditions had made it. Man of the Match was Ollie. Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 5 FC Clacton U14 2An unseasonably warm Sunday morning at Kirby Playing Fields saw Frinton take on FC Clacton. Darcy had the unusual luxury of having 13 players available for the game and employed his starting eleven in a 4-5-1 formation. Kicking up the slight hill, the home side made the better start, Ben lashing a shot across the face of the goal from a fairly tight angle during the first couple of minutes. Their dominance continued for a while without the killer touch being applied which was almost punished, when only Ollie’s goal line clearance prevented Clacton from taking the lead. The visitors were really asking some questions of the Frinton defence by now and a very well timed tackle from Connor was needed to stop a one on one with Harry G. in the Frinton goal. Ollie then turned provider as his quick ball forward released Sam whose shot rolled agonisingly past the post with the ‘keeper well beaten. Eventually Frinton found a finish, Ben with a right-footed effort opening the scoring to the relief of the home supporters. These same supporters were on the edge of their seats moments later as a Clacton forward burst through on goal and Harry had to make a great save with his feet to keep the lead intact. Lewis then played a fantastic ball through for Sam who saw his shot parried out for a corner. The ball was crossed in from the corner and in trying to clear the danger, Clacton conceded a free kick near the corner of the penalty area. Fraser stepped up and curled a beautiful strike over the wall and ‘keeper and into the top right hand corner to make the score 2-1. Clacton then won a penalty as Harry brought their striker down in the area and no mistake was made from the spot as the ball went in off the post. Keen to restore their 2 goal cushion, Frinton attacked again straight from the restart and Sam put Harry B. in to curl the ball coolly into the net. The Reds started the second half in the same vein as they had the first, both Harry and Sam having good chances that perhaps they should have done better with. Calvin was next to have a crack as his shot on the turn wasn’t far away from the top corner. Again, Frinton could have been left rueing missed chances as Clacton scored from a free kick that was played into the box and found it’s way into the goal after confusion in the 6-yard box. Frinton then worked hard to win a corner that Ben whipped in from the left and Harry B. met with a powerful header, which thumped into the net from about 12 yards out. Clacton then had a fairly sustained period of pressure which the Frinton defence did well to contain and once Cameron had won the ball in the left back position he released Nat, a quick ball inside to Ben followed by a deft touch through for Vaughn saw the latter keep his composure to slot past the ‘keeper and score his first goal for the team to make it 5-2 Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 1 St Edmunds 4This second round League Cup tie was notable for a couple of reasons, the firstly for the awful weather that preceded the game and continued for most of the first half and secondly for the somewhat bizarre refereeing. The weather was also responsible for the demise of at least two umbrellas!! Frinton, starting with the bare eleven players again, were taking on a team from the division above and got off to the worst start possible in the pouring rain when the visitors took the lead after about 2 minutes, a free-kick from the right looped up from the head of a St Edmunds player and found its way just under the crossbar. It could have been worse though as a second goal was disallowed shortly afterwards for offside. Frinton then started to get forward themselves and good crosses from Sam and Connor found the opposition ‘keeper struggling to reach the ball but unfortunately no one was following in on either occasion. Fraser then shaved the post with a trademark long free-kick and Calvin tested the keeper with a dipping shot before the referee waved play on, as the St Edmunds number 7 broke into the box and was caught for what looked like a nailed on penalty. The play was flowing from end to end and Cameron, filling in at centre back due to Ollie’s absence, had to make a good tackle just as the visitor’s striker was about to pull the trigger. Another ball over the top saw the number 7 catch Harry G. late, drawing “ooohs” and “aaaahs” from the crowd, but no damage was done and the game was allowed to continue after a quick word from the ref and a handshake between the two players. St Edmunds extended their lead shortly before half time as yet another ball over the top to the quick striker paid dividends. Half time came and now that the rain had stopped and the wind was behind them, Frinton had high hopes of putting some pressure onto the St Edmunds defence. In the first attack of any substance, Charlie won the ball well in the centre of the park and released Harry B. who was quickly closed down and had to shoot from distance, resulting in a goal kick. Sam then put in a teasing cross / shot which was just out of reach of a final touch by a Frinton player and also just slid past the far post. Frinton were doing well and had penned St Edmunds back into their own half but they had to keep on their toes because the visitors always had the option of the quick, long ball to their striker and on one occasion, only last ditch defending from Vaughn kept him at bay and Harry G. had to race off his line on several occasions to dive bravely onto the ball. St Edmunds scored their third goal in similar circumstances, Frinton had a corner that was belted upfield and tucked away by the number 7, although there was more than a suspicion of handball involved as he controlled the ball. Frinton were then denied a penalty, Nat clipping the ball past the defender, who raised his arm and stopped it, as the supporters exchanged looks of disbelief, the ball found its way to Harry B. who narrowly missed from about 15 yards. Frinton’s perseverance was rewarded as Lewis found Harry B. who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to register his first for the team and make the score 3-1. The Reds almost scored straight afterwards, Nat battling well to win the ball on the left and Harry B. almost deflecting the cross into the roof of the net. Lewis was next to have a sight of the target but his sidefooted effort was a touch too near the goalkeeper, who saved comfortably. St Edmunds weathered the storm and won a controversial penalty, the tackle seemed to be well outside the area and even the St Edmunds players took up positions in the area as if waiting for a free-kick. The Frinton protests were to no avail and the penalty was duly tucked away to give the visitors a slightly flattering 4-1 win to progress to the 3rd Round. Man of the Match was Harry Burkett Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 3 Reed Hall U14 2On a clear, crisp Sunday morning at their location headquarters in Kirby, Frinton and Walton Reds faced Reed Hall in this eagerly awaited early season clash with the current league leaders. In their clean, crisp new kit, they looked ready and raring for the ensuing clash. With some injuries and absences, Coach Darcy was forced into some positional changes. After last week’s game tactical changes were issued, along with some protective gum shields. The focus of this week’s training was ball retention and how to avoid rugby tackle-like challenges. With the game in full swing, some good early interplay by the home side promised good things to come. Guest spectator Bradley McKenney in the crowd, making it a record 37, which was quite spooky, as this is his favourite number on the Chinese menu! After a mêlée of exchanges, Reed Hall were awarded a corner from which they scored directly to make the score 0-1. 11 minutes into the game a fantastic 40-yard free kick by F. Holmes into the top right corner drew the home side level. In the 20th minute, a great effort by L. McKenney narrowly hit the side netting, this was to be followed by a fabulous chip goal from S. Greig from a precise through ball by Lewis to make the score 2-1 to Frinton Reds. The half was amiably finished with a rifling left footed, 30-yard drive, giving the Reed Hall goalie no chance, to send the home side in 3-1 up. The first five minutes of the 2nd half were a fairly equal affair with some strong challenges exchanged. Mid way through the 2nd half H. Greig parried away an excellent shot from the Reed Hall centre forward. It was 19 minutes into the second half when a precise cross from Reed Hall was met with a strong header to make the score line 3-2 and ensured an existing last chapter of the game. Special mention must be made of Frinton linesman Phil Harrison, who attempted a very difficult gymnastic move, called a suka hara, but unfortunately landed squarely on his back. After some frantic last play, Frinton held out for a famous 3-2 victory against the current league leaders. As well as S. Greig being named man of the match for his two really well taken goals, special mention must also be made of C. Lewarne with a strong defensive contribution and Cameron with another consistent robust performance, but…… really well done to all the players and manager Darcy for a great team effort and team spirit, that bears well for the rest of the season…….. Up the Reds From your Guest Reporter (or is Rob too lazy to do it)…… T. Holmes Stanway Rovers U14 Reds 2 Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 0 The boys started the game very well and had an early opportunity to take the lead, as a volley whistled over the crossbar. Harry B. then found himself one on one with the Stanway 'keeper, who pulled off a good block to deny him. Somewhat against the run of play the home side took the lead as an inch perfect finish gave Harry G. no chance, to be fair though the ball should have been cleared when Frinton had the opportunities. Frinton continued as they had began, displaying good passing and movement, without creating any clear cut openings. The game turned into a bit of a stalemate at this point, neither side being able to take the initiative, the main entertainment coming from the touchline instructions........ "get into his shorts" (surely would be a free-kick?) and "pull the trigger" (an arrestable offence?) for example. The next moment of note was when Stanway had the ball in the Frinton net again, only for it to be disallowed for a push on a defender. Half time came and as the crowd basked in the sun Darcy issued his instructions to the troops. The second half turned out to be a physical affair, as the home side made their size tell and denied Frinton any time or space on the ball. A change of fortune was needed and even the introduction of a balloon onto the pitch didn't yield the necessary results. Frinton's best chance of the half came as Calvin lashed a long strike goalwards which agonisingly just went the wrong side of the post with the goalie beaten all ends up. Straight after this Stanway got the killer second goal, as a sliced clearance fell kindly for their striker to roll the ball into the net. The Reds played very well in the game but were undone by a combination of physicality and bad fortune. Man of the Match was Cameron Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 3 Feering Falcons 2Frinton got back to winning ways with a very hard fought victory over Feering in the drizzle at Lady Nelson Playing Fields. After a cagey opening 10 minutes Frinton started to create some chances, Lewis testing the 'keeper from long distance, who did well to keep hold of the slippery ball. Nat was next to go close, as he continues his recovery from his injury, just grazing the post after Charlie had made a nuisance of himself at a corner kick. Sam then was unlucky as he was put in by Ben, only for the ball to end up in the Frinton net, Feering breaking out of defence quickly to score. Ben was proving to be a handful and duly got his name on the score sheet after Charlie and Harry B. battled well to win the ball on the left. Most of the action was happening in the visitors half of the field and the Reds soon won a penalty for handball by a defender, very sportingly given by the Feering linesman. Ben unfortunately pulled his shot wide but soon made amends with a sweet strike to put Frinton ahead. Feering fought back and Fraser had to make a couple of good challenges to prevent shots at goal. As half time drew nearer Connor won the ball and played Lewis in down the line, as the ball found it's way to Ben in the middle his legs were taken out from underneath him and man-of-the-match Sam stepped up to float a peach of a free kick over the goalie to send Frinton into the interval 3-1 ahead. Fortified by Darcy's team talk the Reds came out ready for the expected Feering fight back, but it was Frinton who started on the front foot, Calvin slipping a great ball through that Ben just couldn't quite reach. This seemed to spur Feering on and Cameron made not only some fantastic tackles but also some strong runs forward. Feering were struggling to win the ball in the air as it came forward, Ollie outjumping their centre forward and breaking attacks down. Lewis then went close again as his pressure won the ball from the full back and he chipped over the 'keeper but just wide of the target. Back came Feering and Vaughn had to make two brave blocks in succession to thwart them. Mason was proving to be a lively outlet down the left and one of his forays led to the ball being squared to Harry B. who pulled the trigger from outside the area but again the shot flew wide of the upright. Feering counter attacked again, this time hitting the bar. In his attempt to reach that shot Harry G. fell awkwardly on his back and had to leave the field. Ben took over between the sticks and Feering sensed a chance to get back into the game. After standing firm for 5 minutes or so, they eventually pulled one back to send the game into a frantic final spell. Frinton held on however, not without a couple of scares though, and the referee blew the whistle to end a very competitive and hard fought game 3-2 in Frinton's favour. Man of the Match – Sam Greig Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 1 Wivenhoe Youth 3The proverbial game of 2 halves this week I’m afraid. Frinton began the game like a house on fire and played some fantastic football. The passing was sharp, they kept possession well and when the opposition had the ball, they were quick to close down and get good strong challenges in. One particular confrontation with Connor left Wivenhoe’s centre forward in no doubt that he’d been tackled! Calvin and Charlie were both getting through bags of work in the midfield and a bit of neat footwork by Lewis sent Ben away down the wing to cross for Charlie to smash home the ball for the opening goal. Frinton didn’t rest on their laurels though and continued to play great football, even Ollie was finding himself getting forward looking for his elusive 1st goal for the team, whilst Fraser and Cameron mopped up any threat that came from the Wivenhoe forward line. Sam was proving to be a thorn in the visitors side and he nearly made it two goals for Frinton before the half time whistle went. Darcy was forced into some changes during the interval as Mason came on to make his debut, Vaughn slotted in at the back and there was even a brief appearance by Nat as he makes his recovery from his broken arm sustained in the first game of the season. Unfortunately, it seemed that Frinton had completely switched off for the second half and Wivenhoe soon made them pay for their complacency, scoring 3 goals about which Harry G. could do nothing, and conceding none to win the match 3-1. Credit to Harry B. for ploughing a lone furrow up front on his own at times when there was no support to help him and chasing everything all the way to the final whistle. Man of the Match – Harry Burkett Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 0 Layer Colts 4Frinton were out battled in this game played at Lady Nelson. The visitors never let the lads settle and were quickly into their stride and took the lead early on. Frinton had a chance of their own as Sam put Harry b. in on goal but the 'keeper spread himself well to save. The first half continued in the same vein as Layer put Frinton under a lot of pressure, but for the most part the Reds held firm, Ollie and Fraser marshalling the defence well. It took opportunistic long distance shot which sailed over Harry G. to increase the lead shortly before half time though. Frinton started brightly in the second half as they fashioned a couple of good openings but were unable to take advantage, one long range effort from Lewis flashing just wide of the post. If they had scored during this period it would have put Layer on the back foot but as it happened, they fought their way back into the game, Cameron having to make some excellent tackles to keep them at bay. Eventually the dam burst and Frinton conceded a further two goals to give Layer a convincing win. Man-of-the-Match was Cameron. Cressing Sports & Social U14 0 Frinton & Walton U14 Reds 4Frinton started the game on the front foot against newly promoted Cressing, Harry Burkett hitting the bar from a corner early on and going close shortly afterwards as well too. The passing that the Reds were displaying was causing much confusion in the home side's defence and sooner or later something had to give. Sure enough Frinton forced another corner, which was met by Sam to sidefoot into the net and give Frinton the lead. Sam had another goal disallowed for offside as Frinton carried on playing some very good football, one left wing move involving Charlie was especially pleasing on the eye. Most of the play was still occurring in the Cressing half, as Calvin and Charlie didn't give the home side a chance to settle on the ball and the Reds made it 2-0 before half time as Ben followed in a shot and stabbed the ball home. For the first part of the second period, Frinton seemed to lose their shape a bit and Cressing had a lot more joy going forward, although the Frinton defence well marshalled by Ollie held firm and Harry G. didn't really have any shots to save. Vaughn had his hands full with the quick player on Cressing's left and Cameron made a few excellent interceptions. Frinton gradually regained some of the initiative and as a corner floated in Charlie found himself unmarked at the far post and buried a left foot cracker into the corner of the net. A flowing move through the middle led to Lewis slipping a slide rule pass into Ben's feet and Ben rounded the scoring off. There was still time for Cressing to threaten though and a last ditch tackle from Fraser saved the clean sheet on one occasion, whilst Harry G. had to be at full stretch to tip one goalbound shot over the bar. Man-of-the-Match was Charlie. Lexden Saints U14 3 Frinton & Walton U14 0A windy day at Stanway School saw the first competitive weekend of the 2009/10 season. The wind, although blowing along the length of the pitch, didn't really assist either team very much, the ball being in the air for too much of the time. Frinton were playing against the wind in the first half and found it very difficult to break out of their own half. Eventually the pressure told and Lexden took the lead following a deep cross into the area. Frinton were finding difficult to get any sort of passing going and as a result the home side were able to stretch their advantage shortly before half-time. Just prior to this Nat had to leave the field, as he had hurt his arm when falling to the ground after an aerial challenge. this was later confirmed as a broken arm, so our sympathies to Nat and get well soon. Even though the wind was behind them in the second period, Frinton still struggled to make much of a threat on the opposition goal, although they did manage to play some better football. Lexden wrapped up the scoring and the points with a third goal, and although Frinton tried hard for a consolation, it was not to be on this occasion. Man-of-the-Match was Fraser. 2008/09 Season (as Under 13's) League Table
