Match Reports

Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 0 Cornard Dynamos Under 15’s 1

So here we are back at TTC on a very wet and cold Sunday morning. Today’s visitors are playing their last game of the season and a victory today will ensure that they hold onto third place in the league. We've already met twice this season, for two very well balanced games, we won in the cup and the previous league game was a draw, so its looking like today will be a good game.

But the day doesn't start well as I arrive with a flat tyre, and no spare, but I put off calling the AA until I've seen the game. The lads are looking good during warm-up, and Cornard have brought their full squad. More bad news though as, Josh pulls at muscle whilst stretching as doesn't look fit enough to play today, which is a shame as I know Coach Moir had a busy day planned for him in the centre of the park. After a quick re-shuffle of positions the game gets under way.

The reds are looking pretty calm and composed but the Dynamos are looking more committed and very speedy on the ball. After soaking up the early pressure our composure and steady approach brings us back into the game. We are taking a bit more control down the right and nice passing from Vinny, to Jordy and then back down the line with great control from Olly soon puts the visitors on the back-foot. But when Cornard break again, Jake is unlucky with his tackle but as the forward charges down Andrew is there to offer support with a great tackle. The back four, of Jake, Big Joe, Andrew & Vinny are holding a great line forcing the Cornard attackers to stray into offside positions.

The game is really opening up now with the opposition unlucky with a free-kick that goes straight across the goal line, and also good play down our left resulting in a missed shot. But we are pressing too, with Little Joe and Jai working together in the middle, and Joe's cross was unlucky to find neither Max nor George who had found space in front of goal. But Cornard are looking super-quick on the break, and after great passing Mitchell has to be very quick off his line, and does very well to foil the forwards. But again as they press, with a great movement their next shot is unstoppable, and they make it 1.0.

But as always this year, our heads don't go down, and we keep our focus. Glenn and Harrison are also added just before half time to try and create a few more openings. As the break approaches, Saint Sibbo arrives with a tyre-pump so I feel duly obliged to leave the game and try to fix the car.

Unfortunately Sibbo's tool isn't working, and so he decides to shoot-off to find another one. At this point I can hear the game restarting, but as I stand looking at the broken pump chugging away, the crowd at the game are very quite so I can only presume, there isn't too much action. Finally the manager returns and we finally get enough hot air into the tyre, so that the car can be returned home. But once I'm back, pitchside, it was good to see Frinton looking in charge and really pressing hard for that equaliser.

But after five more minutes the score was to remain the same and Cornard go home with all three points. But we still performed very well against a good side. And its only our first league defeat in 2012, so hopefully we can maintain this style of play and work hard for the last six points of the season, if we get these we can still finish 4th in the league which would be absolutely fantastic after a shaky start. Well done lads! (and Saint Sibbo)!!

Tempest Under 15’s 1 Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1

After recent games the Reds have been storming up the table, and in the process playing some great football, and beating good teams with a better track record, so coach Moir is looking for this run to continue. All available players will be getting a run-out today, so again well done to the coaching staff for giving everyone a fair chance. Unfortunately Jamie is out after an operation on his foot - so we wish him a speedy recovery.

Frinton start well and soon take control of the centre ground, making a lot of short accurate passes to progress towards the opposition goal. Kaz sends a great ball forward for little Joe to latch on to, but unfortunately there’s only Harrison in the box and the pass doesn't quite reach. The Tempest makes a great kick out, and they soon have us under a bit of pressure, but big Joe is on hand to make a great clearance.

Another great piece of football releasing Andrew and Jai down the flanks but again the boys are short up front and Harrison is well outnumbered. The Reds seem to be really out of shape, with just a lone striker, Harrison is really taking the game to Tempest, but he has been left with too much to do. Olly is now pushing further forward to help and he has a great shot blocked, and Harrison latches on to the rebound and is very lucky to hit the ball just over the bar. The Frinton pressure continues, but they are still struggling to get the ball into the final quarter, but when the play suddenly switches Olly breaks loose again, and this time the shot is unstoppable - 1-0!

Tempest restart the game and immediately push forward, cutting through the defence and another great strike makes it 1-1. But the Reds all realise that there goal was very much against the run of play, Coach Moir now pushes Jordy upfront to help Harrison and this has an immediate impact, after a great trademark throw from Vinny, and a flick-on to Jordy his is really unlucky not to score with his shot. Josh is now looking more settled with the extra space in the middle and he soon releases Olly again, who's shot just creeps wide of the target.

But I think Tempest realise that we are struggling to score and they start to play with a lot more confidence and determination, pushing the Reds back, and this time Mitchell is on hand to make a great save. The game runs into half-time with both sides looking equally balanced.

After the break,  the Reds still seem to be struggling, although Glen at the back is looking really strong, and helping-out Bij Joe and Jake who are now coming under a lot of pressure. One of our few real chances in the second half comes from George who is making a lot of great runs through the middle, but again he is unlucky with his finishing. Max too has a couple of half-chances, but as a team we are looking a little tired and lacking any flair. As the game winds down, there’s a clash in the box, and the Reds thought it should have been a penalty, but the ref thought otherwise, passions are now running high, and our concentration is fading fast - but luckily, there aren't any other real chances for either side.

So 1-1 it stands and a bit of a disappointing game for the Reds, they didn't play to the best of their ability, but they should be pleased with the point against a very spirited Tempest side who clearly don't deserve their league position.

Colchester Athletic Under 15’s Reds 0 Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1

Coach Moir has some tricky decisions to make for this fixture, our number one goalkeeper isn't fit for this game, and neither is Jamie, our reliable stand-in, so its time for one of our other players to step up and fill Mitchell's boots. Both Kaz and Josh agree to share the responsibility, Kaz will be starting the game and Josh will have the second half in goal. Well done lads.

We had some great results recently that have seen us climb up the table, we've also been playing some great football so hopefully this will continue today. We start the game really well again, using both widths to great effect. Again Jordy and Josh have control of the middle with Olly and Andrew looking really strong and making plenty of running. Our first real attack starts right at the back with Big Joe finding Jordy in space in the middle, in-turn he slots a great pass through to little Joe who runs the ball right into the 6 yard box, only for a strong tackle to knock the ball out for a corner. Vinny takes and the resulting play sees George knock the ball down for Harrison who just misses the target.

Next we see some great play down the right, with Jordy finding Ollie, and he takes a great run passed two Athletic defenders, his shot is cleared, but the ball doesn't travel far and after a tense goalmouth scramble he takes another shot that the goalkeeper does well to save.  More pressure from the Reds that Colchester are struggling to deal with, resulting on a foul just outside their box. Vinny takes, and a great shot is kicked off the line by their goalkeeper, but in no time at all theres another shot and again their goalkeeper again kicks the ball off the line, he really is under a lot of pressure.

Now it's Jai's time to show us his skills with a great run down the left flank, Colchester can only clear the ball for a corner, and when the ball is sent over again, Jordy steps up for a header and is unlucky not to hit the target.

Colchester slowly start to get back in the game, but can only force our reliable defence to give away corners. The resulting kicks are their only real danger, but Big Joe, Little Joe, Jake, Jai and Vinny easily soak up the pressure and clear the attacks. A great clearance from Jake goes straight to Ollie who manages another super run at goal, but again he's unlucky with the finish.

As the game approaches half time, Kaz in goal, has only one scare when he has to come out of the box to clear a long ball. It takes an awkward bounce and as Kaz is out of the box he has to use his head, literally, so he heads the ball back over towards the goal and turns to safely get hold of it - great play!!  :•)

So the second half starts with Josh now between the posts, but he's is kept quiet as we are still in control. Max is now on and lucking very keen, he has a couple of early shots but is struggling to hit the target. Colchester are now having to use long balls to get past our midfield, and on a rare attack Josh shows great bravery by getting down for a great save, Well done!

We soon have Colchester under pressure again, and again Max is unlucky with his shot, this time it's knocked-out for a corner. Kaz takes and whips a great ball into the centre of the goal and straight to Max's feet. This time there’s no chance for the keeper and the ball's tucked into the back of the net. At last we are on the score sheet!

The Reds keep up the great play, and again Ollie is proving to be a handful, but this time his shot goes just over the top. The passing down the right hand side is fantastic now as we totally control the running of the ball, from the defence to the front-line. This time a cut in through to Jake and he finds Max charging down the wing, managing to get around the defender but the resulting shot rattles the post and goes out to safety. Next Ollie makes an almost identical run and his shot hits the side netting. I think the luck must be with Colchester today.

As the game reaches the last quarter its clear that both teams are becoming tired and the play slows. The visitors have one last attack but can only produce a long shot that goes safely over the bar. And our last attack sees Glen win a throw, Vinny takes with a super long throw to Max but his tired legs could not find the target. Again we see another tense finish but we get another well-deserved win, again by a narrow margin.

This lifts us further up the league, and all credit to the coaching staff for yet again allowing the full squad a run-out, and even better that they all played well in a good victory - and finally well-done to the goalies for stepping up and keeping a clean sheet!

Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 2 Feering Falcons 1

The two teams meet again, Feering will be looking for revenge after we beat them in our last game. Coach Moir made some important changes to the midfield for that game, and after such a great performance I'm sure he'll stick with those positions.

And just for a change its Frinton that are applying all the early pressure, playing totally in the visitors half, but the first shot on target comes from a counter attack, by Feering, but its a safe long shot and Mitchell has no problems holding onto it. The Reds keep applying the pressure and Olly makes a great shot that is cleared off the line for a corner, which Vinny whips in straight to Jai, but his shot just narrowly misses the target. We are now dominating, and forcing lots of goalmouth action from corners, unfortunately Feering are getting all their players behind the ball and making it hard for us to make the break through.

On Feerings second break out of their half our defence is a bit slow in responding and an unfortunate clash in our box is deemed to be a foul, and there forward steps-up and converts a great unstoppable penalty.

But our heads don't go down and we respond in a very positive fashion with loads more action in the visitors goalmouth. We are playing some great football now, and a through-ball from Vinny releases Kaz who's shot just goes wide of the post. The attacking is now relentless, and we win a free kick on the edge of their box, Jake takes, but unfortunately just misses the target. Frinton must now have about 70% of the possession, with Jordy & Josh controlling the centre ground. And our football is fantastic, next we see a great flick over the top from Kaz to Andrew, and Feering are lucky to clear it for a throw. Another long throw to George in front of goal but their goalkeeper makes a fantastic save.

The Falcons make a rare counter, trying a long ball over the top, but Jake, Jai & Joe are proving too strong and the attack comes to nothing. But now its our turn to quickly counter, resulting in a chance for Olly, and the Feering goalkeeper struggles to hold it, but theres no one on hand to tap it in. As we approach half time we are now starting to look a little tired, allowing Feering to see more of the ball, but some great tackling from Big Joe and then Glen keeps them at bay.

The visitors start the second half putting us under pressure again, but they can't break down our defence, so they are resorting to long shots, the best of which beats the keeper but comes back off the bar, luckilly Vinny is first to the ball to make a clearance, that goes straight to Jordy who puts a great ball through to Harrison, who's strength and determination finds away through on goal but his shot is deflected for a corner. Max steps up to take the corner, and whips it straight in and Jake scores with a fantastic bullet header, at last its now 1-1.

Feering look stunned, and we keep them pinned-down in their half. Another surging trademark run from midfield by Max, and he rounds two defenders and makes a great shot from distance that has the keeper beat - Fantastic goal! 2-1. The visitors now look totally deflated. We continue the pressure for the rest of the game with Andrew coming closest with another header.

The rest of the game is battled-out in midfield with no real chances from either side. Yet again we come from behind to claim all three points, and against a team that before this game were third in the league, so thats two great results lads, and we move-up the table again. Well done to all - they should great spirit out there today!!

Feering Falcons Under 15’s 0 Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1

After the recent disappointing performances in the cups and the league, Coach Moir was looking for a response from our lads today. Paul shuffled his pack, moving Jordy into midfield and swopping Andrew and Jai down the left. Feering were about 4 places above us in the league, so the home side looked to be favourites in today’s game.

The game starts well with Frinton having the first attack, resulting in a free-kick in the opposition half, Vinny steps forward with a great attempt that just missed the target. This time Feering counter, but great pressure from Jai in defence results in a goal kick.

Frinton are already looking strong in the middle of the park with Jordy and Josh looking in control allowing the Reds to press again. More pressure results in a throw, and Vinny send in a great long ball down the line, Olly chases and manages to get in a superb cross, that George converts perfectly with his head, 1-0 up after only 10 minutes! A fantastic team goal!!

Lots more midfield action with Andrew stepping up to make a great clearance when the home side try to push forward, the resulting corner is held superbly my Mitchell. Both sides are looking equally matched, but I think the Walton midfield is starting to control the game, and as usual Harrison is chasing everything and unsettling the Feering defence.

Another midfield battle and an unlucky bounce and handball results in a free kick to Feering, but our 2 central defenders, Big Joe & Jake are looking very confident and are taking care of all advances. Feering are having to resort to long shots, with one over the bar and another one easily palmed away by Mitchell, and at the other end we are starting to fall into the offside trap too many times.

Into the second half, and the home side are looking lively, but again great pressure from Jai, and their shot goes well wide. Our coach introduces Jamie to replaces Josh in midfield who has had a great game. Jamie's fresh legs soon start to carve out openings for The Reds, and combines well with Olly down the right, but its only great tackling from Feering that is stopping us from getting shots on goal.

And down the left we are looking good too with a great through ball from Little Joe sending Andrew sprinting - yes Andrew sprinting! - down the line, and he puts in a great cross and George is very unlucky but does quite convert it for his second.

Frinton are now looking in control of the game, although most of it is still being played in the middle of the park, with the Reds winning everything in the air and holding their shape and making it really difficult for Feering. Max has come on and his endless running is opening up their defence.

The goal chances seem to be drying-up for both teams, and the last real chance of the game falls to Feering, as they finally mange to break through, but the long shot from distance, is miraculously cleared off the line by Olly.

As the final whistle goes, Frinton have held on for a well-deserved return to the winning ways. But without doubt it was the team effort and great attitude that won the game, every one of our players put in a great performance, positives all around - Well done the Reds! - Keep it up!!!

Cornard Dynamos Under 15’s 1 - Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 2 (Half time 1-0)

After last weeks healthy performance, the Reds were looking to continue their revival, this time trying to secure a victory that would put is through to the last 8 of the League Cup.

For once we started the game looking like the more determined side taking the game firmly into Cornard’s half. The very narrow pitch made it difficult to create much room in front of goal, and despite having the upper-hand we didn't create too many real chances, just a couple of long shots and a few goal mouth scrambles. On Cornard’s first real attack their forward picks the ball up about 5 metres outside the box and unleashes an incredible, unstoppable shot straight into the top left corner of our goal - surely a contender for goal of the season.

Yet again, we found ourselves going behind against the run of play, but to the whole teams credit not one player stopped trying and everybody pushed really hard and again we spent the rest of the half in front of the Cornard goal.

After a brief break, the second half started with the introduction of our captain Kaz, and Big Joe, replacing an exhausted Harrison and Josh who had both put in great performances. The game continued at the same pace, and although we were playing uphill and against the wind we still had the game firmly under control. Our back 4 were playing with great confidence and were playing the ball out of defence rather than lumping it upfield or out of play, Vinny, Jordy, Jake & Andrew were having a fantastic game. This confidence was allowing the midfielders to push forward with Kaz, George, Little Joe and Olly causing real problems for Cornard. And it was Kaz who finally scored our well-deserved goal with a great strike from a very tight angle. We kept our focus after the restart and pressed again, we knew we could win this. Both Olly, with a header over the bar and Big Joe, with a giant strike over the bar, were unlucky, and by now it seemed like Cornard were playing 10 at the back.

Coach Moir, was looking unsettled when he had to take Vinny off with a calf injury, both Vinny and Olly had totally dominated the right flank, but Josh came back on and looked really solid at right back. We moved forward again, but the only shot of the half by Cornard took a bounce in front of our goal, and looked to be going over the top of Mitchell, but with a great leap he managed to get his fingertips to it and bring the ball under control, our keeper wasn't too busy, but his kicking was great today, and this also helped to keep Cornard in their own half.

We pressed again, resulting in another goal mouth scramble, this time Little Joe tries a shot, and beats the keeper, but just to be sure Big Joe knocks the ball in to the back of the net! 2-1 and the game is all but over.

In the final minutes a great tackle by Big Joe unfortunately left one of the Cornard players injured, and the paramedics had to be called, resulting in the final whistle being called 20 seconds early. The drama took the shine off our great victory, but we really played very well today lads - well done! Also we are glad to say the injured player only suffered some bruising, so a happy ending indeed!

Bring on the quarter finals!!

Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1 Boadicea Dynamos Under 15’s 1  (Half time 1-0)

Coach Moir decided, after last weeks disappointing result, that he'd use the full squad in todays game.

This season’s usual unsteady start to games was to continue today. We started well and created a couple of early chances, but when Boadicea had their first attack of the game, the defence didn't close down quick enough and a great strike left our keeper with no chance. As always, we showed great character, bounced back and were now first to the ball, and making an impact.

The back four (Vinny, Jamie, Jordy & Andrew) were now playing very well and looked really solid. Josh had been moved wide in midfield and was having a great game, lots of running as usual from Kaz, and extra support from Jake and little Joe meant that the midfield were looking to control the game. Unfortunately there was a lot of bounce and a strong wind so the ball was travelling a lot further than normal, making it hard to push forward. Max was trying his best on the left upfront, but I think he makes greater chances on his natural right. George had our first chance of the game when Vinny put through a great header for George to run onto but unluckily his shot was saved by the opposition goalie. The only other real chance was a great in-swinging corner from Vinny that was only just punched over the bar.

The second half started with us playing against the wind, which gave us a lot more control. Big Joe, Glen, Olly, Jai and Harrison were all introduced and showed just how strong our squad can be. Mitchell was being quick off his line, and had a lot more to do this half as Boadicea played the long-ball game, but the wind nearly always carried the ball through to our box, and into his safe hands and another great game for our goalkeeper.

We were looking really strong pushing forward on the right with a great play from the back through to the attack. All that play produced some great efforts and when Harrison brilliantly put Olly through, the midfielder made a great run on goal and released a magnificent shot to make it 1-1, well done Olly.

We were now looking really determined and never looked like losing this game - some great tackling from Jordy in the last minutes stopped the opposition from have any more chances, and I think their coach was more than happy with the point.

Colchester Villa Under 15’s Reds 3 Frinton & Walton Reds 0 (Half time 1-0)

After the excitement of last weeks superb cup win, the F&W coach was looking for the same starting 11 to continue with the same flair and commitment. Unfortunately, not all players were available, and so Paul had to shuffle his pack.

The start was very lively and the first chance of the game fell to Kaz, who was very unlucky to see his shot rattle the upright. The boys tried to keep up the pressure but Colchester Villa caught us by surprise and yet again, we suffered from a lack of concentration early in the game.

As always we really bounced-back with some positive football, and it was great to see Jake, back from his injury putting in some great tackles. Jamie was also looking very solid in defence with some strong clearances up the park. Colchester were having a good run but our defence was an equal match.

As the game progressed to half time we managed to get Colchester playing mostly in their half, with Max being unlucky with a couple of well timed runs. As the break came the game was still there to be won.

Straight after the kick-off Colchester managed to pin-us-down and get the ball in the back of our net, but yet again we are 2 goals down but still playing like we can win the game. Max has another great run on goal and manages to get the ball in the back of the net, but unfortunately the linesman has already flagged for offside - you can tell it's just not going to be our day.

We still keep pressing, but a mis-timed tackle at the other end results in a penalty decision against us. Its a great penalty, very firm and tucked into the bottom left corner, but Mitchell has gone down great and somehow manages to turn it around the post - brilliant save! But our luck deserts us again and with Colchester's next attack a simple ball takes an awkward bounce just in front of our goal-keeper and he fails to hold it resulting in the third and final goal for Colchester.

So that's five games now in the league with only one win, and yet again the scoreline isn't the best reflection of a pretty well-balanced game.

Keep working hard boys, and you'll soon turn this season around!

Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 3 Tempest Under 15’s 2 (0-2)

A game of 2 halves! (or you can change this to a game of 2 coaches!!)  :•)

Another home fixture for the Reds, this time a league cup clash between 2 equally positioned league sides. The game starts with a well-balanced opening period, swiftly followed by spells of slack defending from Frinton and suddenly Tempest are 2 goals up, courtesy of well taken chances. A spell of pressure followed, with Tempest winning several corners, their best chance brilliantly headed off the line by Jordy. We now started to create chances with good long shots from Kaz & Vinny, and a great run infront of goal by Olly, but he couldn't quite manage to get in a shot.

The second half starts, Josh comes on to give Olly a well-earned rest and Jai is pushed upfront. Frinton start to play the ball around a lot better, although another long-ball through by Tempest isn't dealt with immediately, and the resulting shot is brilliantly saved by Mitchell, this was to be the visitors last real chance as the defence of Jamie, 2 Joes and Jordy kept the back solid for the rest of the game.

The first real chance of the half with Kaz letting Vinny take the corner on the right, it zips in straight to an unmarked Big Joe on the penalty spot and he strikes it well first time only for the ball to clear the bar - unlucky. With the midfield working hard, resulting in a throw by Vinny on the half-way line, the ball was received and brought down really well by Jamie feeding the ball forward to Josh, who then finds Kaz who chips the ball over the defence and Jai sprints in to score a great team goal.

The Reds now looked far more positive, and with the help of Andrew pushing into midfield we were really taking control, it pays off as Andrew holds off the defenders and slides a ball square across the edge of the box to Max who is equally as strong and holds off his defender to get in a great unstoppable shot, 2-2 and in the dying minutes and it looks like Frinton have taken the game to extra time!

But its not over yet, and just after the restart Max picks up the ball, beats the first defender and manages to hold off the second to get another great unstoppable strike on target, a fantastic goal from the Man-Of-The-Match.

Well done boys - a great turnaround!

Frinton & Walton Under 15’s Reds 1 - Iceni Wanderers Under 15’s 2

Back at home for our third game of the season, and a big welcome to Josh, his first game for the Reds. We were a little unlucky not to get a point last week, but yet again this was to be a game of 2 contrasting halves.

The first half saw The Reds controlling the game for the majority of the time, and our hard work paid off with a great team goal for Harrison, with fantastic build-up work from Little Joe (our man of the match) and Kaz, we always look like scoring with Kaz pushing up front. At times we were a little exposed in the middle of the park but our trusty back four, without doubt the best in the league, kept the opposition at bay.

Unfortunately in the second half, we didn't have the same composure, this time Iceni managed to exploit our bad positioning and managed 2 quick goals. Although our heads never dropped and we kept on playing, we never looked as strong in front of their goal. All-in-all a difficult game, and points lost in an equally matched competition, hopefully our luck will change soon, we at least deserved a draw.

After a successful 5-1 opening game of the season, we now faced one of the leagues stronger sides away from home. The boys looked very focused during the pre-game warm up and the new Nike kits courtesy of our new sponsor Oak Park Properties, looked very professional.

Frinton & Walton took total control of the game and had Layer Colts under real pressure for the first 20 minutes. All players seemed really on-top-of-their-game. Then totally against the run of play, 1.., 2…,3… quick goals all for the opposition!

But we didn't buckle, showed real spirit and again we started the second half pushing forward and playing some great football. The whole team was now working again, and this determination brought rewards - 2 goals from 2 set pieces for Jake & Jai, we now had everything to play for.

Unfortunately, for the remainder of the game Layer Colts again looked the stronger side and put us under a lot of pressure, but as always, we defended well with Jordy at the heart of the defence, and managed to keep the scoreline at a very respectable 3-2.

A great game, and very enjoyable - hopefully if we keep playing the same way we did for the opening period then we'll see some fantastic results this season. Well done lads!

there ya go!

Previous Match Reports

Frinton and Walton U13 reds 0 Bures U13 7
This was a tale of 2 halves, the first 10 minutes we looked a bit shaky and gave away a sloppy goal but we rallied well and were far the better footballing side. The second half started, the weather was horrific, the boys were freezing, we gave away another goal  and from then on we were in trouble. The sheer size of the opposition overwhelmed us  today and  we were finding the constant long throw and long ball into our half  hard to deal with . We lost 3 players to cold and injury and played the last 20 minutes with 10 men. The remaining boys battled hard but could not stop the flow of goals . The pitch contributed to at least 2 of their goals and I'm sure on a better day towards the end of the season we would have had a better outcome, but we will take the positives out of the game  and bounce back next week. Thanks to all the parents for braving the weather, see you all next week, unlucky boys .

Frinton & Walton under 13 reds 3  Frinton & Walton under 13 blues  4

A bright but cold Sunday afternoon at Halstead Road, the best pitch in the area. It was a bit sticky in the middle but great down the wings.

We welcome Frinton & Walton u13 Blues who are riding high in the B league for a local derby, a great atmosphere and a good turn out from parents on both sides.

The match got underway and it was pretty even for 10 mins then the blues scored two quick goals and put them in the driving seat, but we hit back after a great free kick from Vinny which flew across the 6 Yard box. Jai controlled the ball set up Ollie who struck it into the net to make it 2-1.

The match was pretty even, the work rate from our boys was superb snapping at the oppostion and not allowing them to get into any kind of Rhythm.

The Blues scored again to make it 3-1 and that's how it stayed until the end of the first half  Ollie had to go off as he was feeling unwell and was replaced by Glen who made his first appearance for us and he had a good steady Game down the right hand side.
We conceded a 4th goal and road our luck for the next 15 mins in which Jake made some brilliant saves and some great tackles from the back kept the score to 4 .
Then little Jo went of inured and Ollie came back on. After some great work from Ollie; who was pulled down on the edge of the box. The freekick saw Vinny rattle the crossbar Jai hit the rebound and eventually turned in by George.

We were now starting to believe in ourselves and turned in some great football with some neat passing all over the pitch.

The blues had their chances but were finding Jake and the impressive Andrew Jamie and Jordon hard to beat.

A great through ball from vinny saw Ollie dance past two defenders and beat the goalie and place the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-4
the Ref blew the whistle and this was an end to another cup run.
The team were outstanding today, to go down by 4 goals and not crumble and to bring the game back to a tense finish was fantastic.

Good to see Dom back after illness a real one hundred percent player it really showed today what a great bunch of lads we have and how close they are as a team.
A great Performance really proud of the boys well done.

ST OSYTH U13 1 FRINTON AND WALTON REDS U13 5

It was a cold Sunday morning at St Osyth but the pitch was in good condition and the boys were keen and pleased to get another game in this stop start season. We started brightly with some nice passing and movement and it was not long before Ollie  put us into the lead. Big Joe went close on 2 occasions,  then up popped Ollie again to make it 2, its great to have Ollie in the side, his workrate and attitude is fantastic and he deserves the goals he's scoring at the moment. We continued to play some neat football but found the packed St Osyth defence hard to break down. When we played the ball out wide to Vinny and George on the right and Andrew and Jai on the left we looked like scoring. It was after some neat play from little Joe and a great ball from Kaz out wide to Jai, who struck a brilliant left foot shot from outside the box into the back of the net to make it 3 -0.
The second half was much the same and an unfortunate rebound from the St Osyth keeper's clearance saw the lively George  beat his player and smash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. St Osyth didn't give up and had a couple of  chances themselves, the first of which Jake pushed over the bar but the second went in to make it 4-1. We got back into our stride  after the goal and it wasn't long before Kaz got his reward for his efforts with a great strike to make it 5-1. Ben played some nice football and big Joe is getting better as his confidence grows, the back four  look solid and little Joe, Vinny and Jordy  were outstanding today. Jamie is reading the game well now and knows when to cover Vinny and Andrew when they push forward. A good performance today and a much needed 3 points well done.

Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 2 Halstead U13 Reds 4 (A E T)

This was the 1st game for what seemed like an eternity, the pitch at Halstead Rd was in great condition considering the recent weather and  that  two games had taken place already before us.
The boys played well right from the whistle. Some great work between J Chaplin and George was causing all sorts of problems for the visitors defence while Kaz and Josh were in control of the centre and Jai was lively down the left flank. Big Joe was winning his tackles and played his best game so far of the season we created several good chances and it took a low drive from Jai from the edge of the box to open the scoring.
Although we created more chances we could not add to our lead before the end of the first half. We started the second half pretty much the same, with come great football and tremendous effort from all the boys, any attack from the visitors was stopped by rock solid defence of Jordy, Jamie, Andrew and Vinny. In a rare mix up in our area Halstead equalised but we continued to press hard and were awarded and penalty which Kaz rifled into the top right hand corner. The last ten minutes saw both teams create chances with Max coming closest to scoring . But with the very last kick of the game Halsted scored to take the game to extra time. Another mistake in our area led to Halsted scoring to take the lead, and then while we pushed for the equalizer they added a fourth .Although pressing hard we could not convert our chances and were unlucky to go out of the cup at this stage. It was a great team performance  and some great  individual  performances today it was nice to see the boys passing with confidence and can't wait until our next game, well done.

Sat 16th January
Thanks to all the boys  for turning up at the beach for training today its good to see so many there hope you all enjoyed  it as much as me!

As we have not played for a few weeks, and having a Christmas / New Year break, we thought perhaps a good time for a halftime report. Firstly a massive thank you to Steve and Albert for all their help behind the scenes, myself and Sibbs could not have done this without you, to Jim and Clive for the help at training, 3 people at training is a perfect number. The biggest thanks is to Clive for running the line - this is the hardest and worst job at any football club and without Clive it would make my job as coach so much harder.
Finally to the parents for getting the boys to training and the matches and for all the encouragement you give to the boys, I played football from an early age and believe me the more praise and encouragement the boys get, the more confident they will become and the better they will perform. A great example of this was against Tempest in the cup; Albert and Clive were away so I ran the line and Dave took over the coaching.  We asked the parents to give as much support as possible on the sidelines and this really lifted the players. We won the game on penalties and it was my most enjoyable game of the season.

As for the season so far I think the best is still to come from the team, we have had some good performances (away at Brightlingsea being one of them) but I really think the second half of the season is when we will really start to play our football and get some great results. We can hopefully progress to the next round of the cup as well.
Training has been well attended and apart from about 4 sessions the boys have been working really hard. The more you put into training and the harder you work the fitter and better you will play on a Sunday, so keep giving 100% and I am sure we can move up a couple of places in the league this season
Our first football team outing of the year was to Walton Pier for bowling, Pirate Petes!, a bite to eat and even a bit of ice skating. The boys seemed to enjoy it and were all well behaved so we will look to do a few more before the season is out. The results of the bowling were: -

Game one winners                                      Game two winners

lane one        Glen                                      lane one        Glen
lane two         Jamie and Kaz                     lane two         Andrew
lane three      Jordy                                      lane three      Jia
lane four        Josh                                       lane four        Dom

Highest score           Josh    132
Fastest  ball               Big joe 16mph
Slowest ball              ------ o.9mph

That’s all for now, thanks for your support and have a Happy New Year!

Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 0 Halstead 0

Our third game of the season and we welcomed Halstead to a blustery Frinton on sea. Halstead started the first half with the wind behind them; it was a hard fought 35 minutes. The back four were fantastic with Jordy stopping anything in his path and using the ball well, Jamie swept up behind him and the two are really now starting to form a good solid partnership. Andrew (Mr. Dependable) again won everything he went for and once again never afraid to put his head in for the ball. Vinnie was solid and calm at the back and linked well with Josh down the right on several occasions. It was this route that took us up into Hallstead’s half.  Kaz was leading well as usual and played further up the pitch today, spreading the ball around well, which bought Jai into the game, and this is why Jai had his best game of the season. Joe was working well in the mid field and was constantly snapping away at the Halstead players making it hard for them to get into any kind of rhythm. We went into the break 0-0 and were very pleased with the performance.

The second half saw us dominate the game and restricted Halstead to only the occasional shot. One of which Jake (the cat) tipped round the post. The boys worked really hard, Ollie and George causing the defence all sorts of problems. Max was playing well down the right, wining lots of tackles and playing some great balls to the lively front two. We did get the ball into the net on one occasion by Kaz, but that was ruled offside. Jamie had a long range shot but the Halstead keeper was in fine form. Jai danced passed two defenders down the left and put a lovely through ball but once again the flag was raised. Ben came on down the left and won his tackles and played some neat little passes to Kaz and George but no matter how hard we tried it wasn't to be and we had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
It was a good performance today, which started with a good training session on Saturday and a good warm up before the match. All we ask for form the players is a good team sprit and a 100% effort in training and this weekend we got that. So well done Boys, roll on next weekend.

Boxford 4 Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 3

Another away game, this time we travelled to Boxford, it was a really sticky pitch and I'm sure it contributed to the fact that we didn't play the kind of football we know that we are capable of. It was a strange game, which neither side dominated, but both sides having chances. Ollie opened the scoring for us, but Boxford soon cancelled this out. Then Boxford took the lead. George levelled the scores, and we went into half time at 2-2.

The second half, saw us play a bit better, but Boxford went ahead again. Once again Ollie equalised and at this point I thought we would go on to win the game, but it was not to be when Boxford scored the winner with four minutes to go.

It was not out best performance but we still have plenty of games and points to be won and with plenty of hard work in training it won't be long before we see ourselves climbing up the table.

Tempest U13 3 Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 3 a.e.t. (Frinton win 5-4 on penalties)
It was a really narrow pitch at Wivenhoe, which took the boys a little time to get used to. Tempest took the lead, but we were playing some of the best football we have played all season. A goalmouth scramble saw Max kick the ball over his head and into the net, to level the score. We continued to play really well with Jamie, Josh and George, linking up well down the right. Joe was working hard in the centre midfield. Jordy and Kaz were strong at the back, restricting the opposition to long range efforts on goal. It was one of these shots that put tempest back in the lead. We continued to play good football and were rewarded when George scored to make in 2-2. Once again Tempest scored but we kept our heads up and well-deserved equalizer from the hard working Jai took the game to extra time. Andrew and Ben linked well down our left side, and sent George through on several occasions. Although both sides went close to scoring in extra time, the game had to be decided on penalties. Great penalties from Kaz, George, Jamie, Josh and Joe and brilliant save from Jake (the cat) secured a great victory.

Frinton U13 Reds 3  Boadicea Dynamos U13 2
Despite the weather conditions both managers and referee were keen to see the game go  ahead .Because of the wind and rain both sides struggled to play good football and it took at least 10 minutes for us to get into our stride. Ollie scored our first goal and although we were in control of the game we couldn’t add to our lead .

The second half we started well and Max ran onto a through ball to make it 2. George once again popped up to get the 3rd goal it seemed from this point we would go on to win by 5/6 goals but the opposition scored to make it 3-1 then we all went to sleep at a free kick and the ball ended up in the net at 3-2 the game seemed to go from end to end and we were all quite relieved to here the final whistle go. A hard game in difficult conditions but a well deserved 3 points to push us up the league table, well done all the boys some great individual performances. Also a big thanks to all the parents for braving the weather.

Brightlingsea Regents  U13 3 Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 2
We travelled to league leaders Brightlingsea for another tough match,
it was a great day for football played on a superb pitch. We started brightly and both sides were playing some great football. A long ball into Brightlingsea’s half from Dom saw their keeper rush out and clear. George picked the ball up just inside their half and shot straight for goal, excellent vision and awareness from the inform George. We went into the break a well-deserved 1- 0 up.

The 2nd half saw us carry on exactly how we started the game and some good work from Jo and Jai released Ollie who burst through the defence only to be brought down. The resulting free kick saw Josh smash the ball against the bar and into the net making it 2-0. The back 4 of Vinny, Jamie, Jordy, and Andrew looked really solid and nothing was getting past them, in fact it took a rather harsh penalty decision against us and the resulting kick got them back into the game. From then on it was backs against the wall and another goal from Brightlingsea knocked us for six. We did manage a few attacks and although we defended brilliantly we conceded a late goal  and ended up losing 3-2.Overall a great performance from the boys and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 2 Colchester Athletic U13 Reds 1

Today’s opponents were second place Colchester Athletic Reds, our biggest challenge yet this season. We had the upper hand in the first half, looking strong advancing from the right - a well timed lob from Vinny set Josh loose to half volley an unstoppable goal. More great movement, this time Olly sends George free to convert. 2-0 at half time.

We lacked the same commitment in the second half and Colchester took full advantage to get one back. This goal was enough to wake us up and the defence got back in stride to gain control again. Also well done to the subs - they have all been performing well this season.

 Cornard Dynamos U13 0 Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 4 (League Cup 1st Round)
This cup match saw us travel to Cornard for another away game, it was a great game for us, spending most of the game in the oppositions half. We played some lovely football with George and Vinny linking up well down the right. We finished the game 4-0 winners and really should have added a few more to the score sheet. The goal scorers were George 2  Little Joe 1 and Kaz from the penalty spot. Great performance from all the boys.

Bures United U13 1   Frinton & Walton U13 Reds 2
We got off to a flying start when Ollie gave us an early lead, we continued to play some good football but against the run of play Bures levelled the score. Almost immediately Ollie latched on to a through ball, beat 2 defenders and chipped the goalie for a great solo effort. Now back in front we pushed hard for the 3rd goal but went into the break only 2-1 up.

The second half saw us pegged in our own half mainly due to the longest throw I have ever seen in boy’s football but the whole team defended superbly and we came away with our first 3 points of the season.

Halstead Town U13 Reds 2   Frinton & Walton U13 Reds1

First game of the season saw us travel to Halstead, we quickly got into our game and dominated the first half, but we couldn’t find the back of the net. The second half saw us concede 2 quick goals and we lost our shape and confidence. A great goal from Kaz seemed to bring us back to life, Joe gay broke the through defence and went close, but although we piled on the pressure we just could not create any clear cut chances and when Josh rattled the crossbar from 20 yards it was clear it wasn’t going to be our day.

Pre Season Friendly Tournament - Clacton Football Club
A great day for the reds we played 5 games, 3 against A league opposition and 2 against B league teams. We won our first match, lost 3 by the odd goal and drew the last game. We played really well all day and with a bit more luck in front of goal we could have won at least one more, and drawn one, but a great start to the season.
